Aye Aye Captain!

Colby has two honorary godparents, our best friends, Lucas and Destiny. We are not Catholic so they have no real rights to care for him if anything was to happen to us.  They seem happy about that.  On this day Lucas took us all sailing.  It was an awesome day to spend together.  I didn't get a picture of Lucas with Colby. Guess we'll all have to go again!

A Little Giggle

He's starting to laugh more and more.  He loves to watch Dozer and squeal at him.

Great Grandpa Dyk

Colbs got to meet a pretty important guy this day, his Great-Grandpa Dyk.  With an extra treat of visiting Aunt Ang ( she's much too young to have a great inserted) and Kaden.  Kaden was sharing some tips on how to be a boy at the farm.

Six Months

Dear Colby,

Six months ago you came to us.  I feel like we just brought you home then I woke up and BAM, 6 months old.  You are extremely easy going and just. Happy.  Now that it is summer we are going to a million places and doing crazy things with Callen and Addison.  And you just fit in. Take naps at the beach, hang in the shade at the park, gazing around the Pacific Science Center or watching the kids at the jumpy house.  You make my life easy and I feel the blessing.
I have never been a morning person.  I am angry in the morning and I do not wish to speak to anyone for a good 15 minutes or before my first sip of coffee.  When I hear you in the morning, I am tired.  7:00 am seems to come so early.  I can't even fathom the memory of waking up at three and five am anymore even though it was only a couple of months ago.  I walk into your room and there you are...smiling.  Patiently waiting to be picked up and to start your day.  How can I not be a morning person now that I have you???  Your sweet smile illuminates my spirit.
You started getting frustrated the past few weeks.  You see something you want but can't seem to reach it. You do a funny little squeal.  Don't worry. You will crawl soon enough to get it yourself but trust me, you have endless years ahead of you to become frustrated on not getting what you want.  You started sitting up on your own. For about 10-15 seconds before you fall and we laugh.  Your laugh. The sweetest sound I have ever heard. You do this thing where you take a deep breath and then giggle more.  Half the time you can't breathe because you're laughing so hard.  I hope you go through life laughing. You are our heart sweet sweet sweet Colby bear.

It was a Mohawk kind of day. 6 mo check up in the bag. Happy and healthy! No more 13 percentile for this guy.

A letter to a new Dad.

(these are Scooter's shoes when he was baby)

As we go through the years, I come across new sides of you that I love getting to know.  Today, I celebrate you as a Dad.  I love how cautious you are with him.  I flail him around, pound his back to burp and shove his little arms through clothes; you are gentle.  I love that even though you may not be physically present with us, I feel your support and encouragement.  I love when we see you at the end of the day you give Colby your time.  You are always willing to help and I may not say it a lot but “thank you.” I love that you have dreams for his future and are excited about playing catch with him. I love how throughout the day I receive a text and it’s you wondering what he is doing at the moment or if he has done anything new yet that day. I love that you love him the way only you can do.  I always knew you would be a good dad, but ever since you went down to the center to practice and make sure the car seat was 100% installed correctly you have been proving it. Today is a new holiday and we shall celebrate!

Beach

Went to the beach with my sisters and mom.  Put his toes in the sand and in the water...he didn't seem to care.  I was determined to get his footprints...didn't really work.  But we all had a great time and can't wait until next year when we go again!

month five.

He has been busy growing this month!  At his 4 mo checkup, his doctor said he was only in the 13th percentile (whatever that means!). I have no idea what he is at now, but I know that he weighs almost too much for me to tote him around in the car seat.  I have to take a deep breath and heave him into the Tahoe.
I just finished up an internship, so no more time with Heather, the gentle baby whisperer :(  She was a gal who had her own 8 mo old, watched another 6 mo old and was happy to take Colby.  I thought she was crazy until I went to pick him up on his first day.  I walked in and she had spa music playing. And the babies...in total zen mode.  It was amazing.  Colby was known as the player since the girls would crawl all over him and he seemed to love it! He will miss them.
He has become very mobile now. Exciting at first, sort of annoying now.  No longer can I just prop him up somewhere or just lay him down on the ottoman.  Nope. He squirms, wiggles and rolls around.  He worked on rolling over back to front for a week.  Now that he can do it, he insists on staying on his stomach.  I was an absolute wreck the first two, three nights he demanded to sleep on his stomach.  The first night, I put him on his back probably 10 times before I gave up.  The next night, I stood next to him sleeping with my hand on his back to ensure he was breathing and would not suffocate.  The third night, I woke up constantly but gave myself a pep talk that I was not going to get up and check on him and that he was fine...he was. His face might be squished into the mattress with his butt up in the air and on the other side of the crib facing an entirely different direction than I put him down in, but he wakes up happy!
Also, I started feeding you rice cereal.  You were not a fan at first but you got it.  You're messy.

3 Months!

Well life got in the way and I wasn't able to post any of this little guy.  Month 3 was a big one too.  He rolled over! I missed it the first time because I looked away for maybe 15 seconds but when I returned to him he was on his back and I was pretty sure I placed him on his tummy.  I ran and got my phone had the video rolling and put him on his tummy again.  Sure enough he rolled over. I was ecstatic! His smile has grown a little wider, too!

Month 2!

Ok, so the 2nd month flew by much faster than the 1st! Time needs to sloooooow down.  I feel like the days are speeding by.  This last month I started my internship in a Kindergarten class and I reluctantly had to leave you.  I was obviously more upset about it than you.  You got to spend a couple of hours with Granny Judy and Boede and a full day with Grandma each week which I was beyond thankful for.  You got to sleep, cuddle and play while I was a wreck! I also started toting you back to work with me.  I guess throw in our usual activities and thats where the past 28 days went.

Whats my new favorite thing about you? YOUR SMILE.  It has become one of those things I live for.  Even though your first real wide smile was to Grandpa, I still treasure it.  Dad loves to come home to you. He walks through the door, goes to you and you simply smile at him.  Oh and did I mention that you have slept thru the night three times? Hallelujah! I love you BOBO.

Below are pics from month 2!

The things I can do

Addison & Callen

I thought it would be hard going back to work but I gotta say these two kiddos have made it much easier.  They love to help: one gets a diaper out, one gets the changing pad, they get to take turns throwing the dirty one away and they make sure I am aware that " THE BABY IS CRYING!" We went for our first outing to Pump it Up. When we got in the car I did a mental check: diaper bag, snacks, water, Addison in the back, Callen is behind me....oh wait a minute...where is Colby?!?! Still inside right by the door.  I'm pretty sure I will forget one kid somewhere someday.  Just hope its somewhere safe!

Happy 1 Month!

colby is 1 months old video

Um....wow! Not sure where the past 31 days went. Oh wait, yes I do.  It went to figuring out feedings, perfectly interrupted sleep, FaceTiming my family, having visits from family & friends, crying about your nose being stuffed up, spending hours cuddling with you when I should have been doing homework, worrying about if you were still breathing during the night, trying to soothe your cries, taking naps with you on my chest, taking a million pictures, oh and changing 3500 diapers.

I've realized there was no point in naming you Colby since no one really calls you it.  I call you BOBO- your Dad hates it, Aunt Jenny calls you CoJo- your Dad equally hates that, and he calls you his little buddy.  Things have certainly changed since you came.  Like when I get a call from Grandpa; its no longer, " Hey, how are you?" Its an abrupt greeting of "How is my grandson?!" Mmmmhmmm, thanks for calling Dad :) And even though Dozer often gets left out now, he naps next to you in your swing and I have found him at times sleeping in your room at night.  I guess he has no hard feelings towards you.

What is my favorite thing about you now? Even though I love the feeling of you asleep in my arms, the best is when Dad plays DJ and we sing and dance with you!

In the past 31 days I have experienced a love that is unexplainable.  You have completely taken over our world and we find something more to fall in love with from you each day.  I am looking forward to the next 18,000 days or more of moments with you.

Our First Walk

Yes, I was nervous about him getting cold so he has on: two jackets, two hoods and a hat, and two blankets....

Hard day at the office- TGIF!

I decided to put him in his crib last night for the first time.  He seems so itty bitty in there but he did great and woke up happy! The video monitor lets me stare at him to make sure he is breathing without having to get up out of bed.

Colby

Colby

He's been home almost a week now and we're still getting the hang of things. We've discovered that he is not that much of a crier and he's an amazing sleeper. Hope he stays this way! We are so incredibly blessed to have him in our life and we are excited about this new journey. Above is a link for pictures of our first week together.
